| IGN Posts Sonic iPod News |
Mere hours after it was launched on iTunes, IGN Wireless talks to Sega about what the launch means for the future of iPod gaming.
"... The original music sounds just as 'beep-boop vibrant' as ever (especially through a nice set of headphones) and the colors practically explode off the screen of both a fifth-generation iPod and the new iPod nano. But what is surprising, though, is that this iPod edition of Sonic the Hedgehog is actually not emulation. "It's a new piece of code," said Jeffery. "And it pushes the hardware. ..."

| Sonic The Hedgehog iPod Released |
SEGA of America, Inc. today announced that Sonic The Hedgehog is now available for play on the new iPod nano with video, the iPod classic and the fifth generation iPod.
Simon Jeffery, president and COO of Sega of America calls our conversion "pixel perfect" when compared to the 1991 Genesis original.
Early in 2007, Backbone Entertainment approached Ziggurat Interactive to collaborate on the creation of Sonic the Hedgehog for the range of Apple iPod devices. And now, just in time for the holiday season, Sonic the Hedgehog has been released on Apple's iTunes online service. Sonic the Hedgehog is the classic Sega Genesis/MegaDrive title that sparked the 16-bit era of video gaming. What amounted to a line-by-line conversion of the original, Ziggurat Interactive labored long and hard to create the first side-scrolling/platform game available on the iPod.
"The team did an excellent job and we are absolutely thrilled with the results.", says Bob Koon, President and Tech. Director at Ziggurat Interactive. "Sonic is such a recognizable character and a cornerstone of video gaming history that we were honored to be involved with his conversion to the iPod. We are huge fans of the classic Genesis game and that really comes through in our conversion to the iPod. We are confident that fans of the original will agree that Sonic the Hedgehog for the iPod is every bit the same game they know and love." Bob continues, "The iPod is a great platform and we would love to do more titles for it."
Sonic the Hedgehog is now available at the iTunes store. |
